Substance Abuse Prevention Month: Prevention Saves Lives

Substance Abuse Prevention Month is a time for all of us to reflect on how to help our communities and loved ones prevent and heal from the impacts of substance abuse. Substance abuse can look very different and no two situations are exactly the same.  Some examples of abuse may include underage drinking, alcohol dependency, non-medical use of prescription drugs, over-the-counter medication abuse and illicit drug use. Millions of Americans struggle with substance abuse. That’s why it’s so important to take time to observe National Substance Abuse Prevention Month every October. Prevention saves lives.

October is a time to highlight the vital role of substance abuse prevention. Strategies targeting the root of the problem are essential to curb the community epidemic of substance abuse and help people lead healthier lives.
