October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We use this month to promote screening and prevention, to educate, and to show our support for those that have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Did you know that each year, about 270,000 women in the United States get breast cancer? This is why it is important to get regular breast cancer screenings done through a mammogram. Mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer early, and are your best chance for effective treatment.
Other forms of prevention include examining your personal risk of developing breast cancer, and by giving yourself a breast exam. An exam can include looking for lumps, thick spots, or unusual moles. Get to know your body! It is important to educate yourself so you can be aware of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. If you notice a change, call your doctor as soon as possible.
Early detection can be lifesaving. Be proactive about your breast health and schedule your screening today!
