Brunch: That sweet spot in between breakfast and lunch. A favorite for most Americans, and wildly common in most households during the weekends. What’s more? This month celebrates it!
April is National Brunch Month. It’s the perfect opportunity to gather family, enjoy conversation and eat good food. Instead of going out to a restaurant and celebrating, however, try cooking up some of our favorite Indigenous dishes!
Acorn Nut Bread: An imitation of pancakes and fried dough. Perfect with butter – or even syrup!
Bannock: This is as simple as it gets. All it takes is flour, baking powder, and sugar! You can even spruce it up with berries if you have a sweet tooth.
Fry Bread: Traditional, yet delicious. Add as a side to scrambled eggs.
Pudding: Whether it’s berry pudding or sweet cornmeal pudding — either are the perfect contribution to the table with picky eaters. Resembling more of a dessert rather than a brunch item, it’s sure to be a hit!
Prickly Pear Cactus Jelly: Need something to top off the different bread options we mentioned? Look no further. Make this in bulk to refrigerate for later!
No matter the recipe you decide to make, be sure to include family and friends in the festivities! Or, if you already have one of your own, invite loved ones over and cook it together. You could even have copies of what you’re making on hand for them to take home and recreate themselves!
Eating good food coupled with great company is bound to start a chain reaction for all the other months to come.
