“A love like that.” What is it? “That” is a healthy behavior one looks for, or longs for, in a relationship. And with February being Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, what better time to appreciate it?
Raise awareness of healthy relationships within our Native communities. Violence within teen dating relationships is very real. As adults, we must listen to the needs of our Indigenous youth, providing safe, non-judgmental spaces for them to talk about their relationships. We must provide guidance and support on traditional ways of caring for each other and teaching the Native values of honor and respect.
Help honor our youth by raising awareness of dating violence and promoting a healthy, loving relationship. If you or someone you know needs to talk to someone who can provide support, call the StrongHearts* Native Helpline at 1-844-7NATIVE (762-8483) or chat at https://strongheartshelpline.org/.
It is up to all of us as an Indigenous community to support and listen to the next generation! Check out this video on what a healthy relationship should be like: A love like that
